College access, mentoring, and financial support for first-generation college students across northern New Mexico.
About
The Bridges Project for Education is a Santa Fe nonprofit that helps low-income, first-generation, and underserved students pursue and complete higher education. The organization provides guidance, mentoring, and support to young people navigating the often complex path from high school to college and career, focusing on those who would be the first in their families to attend college.
The Bridges Project offers college and career advising, helping students explore options, prepare applications, complete financial aid forms, and understand the steps required to enroll in postsecondary education. For first-generation students whose families may have little experience with the college process, this guidance can be the difference between pursuing higher education and giving up on it.
Beyond the application stage, the organization supports students through the transition to college and during their studies, recognizing that getting in is only part of the challenge. Ongoing mentoring, advising, and connection to resources help students persist and complete their degrees or credentials, addressing the barriers that often lead first-generation and low-income students to leave school before finishing.
The organization serves students in the Santa Fe area, many of whom come from communities with low rates of college attendance and completion. By building relationships with students over time and providing individualized support, The Bridges Project works to close gaps in educational attainment and to expand opportunity for young people who might otherwise lack access to the guidance that more advantaged students receive.
Education is closely tied to long-term economic mobility, and The Bridges Project positions higher education as a pathway out of poverty for the students it serves. Supported by grants, donations, and community partnerships, the organization helps first-generation and low-income students in northern New Mexico reach and succeed in college and beyond.
