About NM Nonprofits

What we are

NM Nonprofits is a comprehensive, searchable directory of nonprofit organizations, foundations, and funders operating in New Mexico. We index 501(c)(3) public charities, community foundations, tribal nonprofits, fiscal sponsors, and the philanthropic institutions that support them, across all 33 New Mexico counties.

Our goal is simple: make it easy to find the organizations doing the most important work in New Mexico, whether you are a donor, a grantseeker, a journalist, a researcher, or a community member looking for help.

NM Nonprofits is an independent, privately owned directory and media platform. We are not a 501(c)(3) organization or affiliated with the state government.

Why we built this

New Mexico has over 7,000 registered nonprofits serving communities from Gallup to Roswell to the pueblos of the Rio Grande corridor. But finding the right organization, one that works in your region, serves your issue area, and is currently active, has historically required piecing together IRS databases, outdated county listings, and word-of-mouth referrals.

Funders face the same problem in reverse: identifying organizations doing strong work in specific regions or issue areas requires relationship networks that not every grantseeker has access to. NM Nonprofits was built to close that gap: one searchable, current, human-maintained directory that serves the whole New Mexico social sector.

How our data works

Our directory is built from a combination of IRS Form 990 public records, New Mexico Secretary of State registration data, direct organization submissions, and editorial research. We review listings for accuracy and maintain descriptions that reflect each organization's current mission and programs.

Organizations can claim and update their own listing at any time. If information is out of date or incorrect, email us at corrections@nmnonprofits.com and we will update it promptly. Our goal is a living directory, not a static snapshot.

Our focus on arts and culture

New Mexico has one of the most distinctive arts economies in the United States. Santa Fe is among the top three art markets in the country. Taos has sustained a working artist community for over a century. Indigenous arts traditions, Hispano folk arts, and contemporary studio practice exist side by side across the state. NM Nonprofits gives particular attention to arts and culture organizations, arts funders, and grants available to artists, including resources on fiscal sponsorship, arts grant applications, and the creative economy.
