MainStreet de Las Vegas is a nonprofit organization dedicated to revitalizing the historic downtown of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and supporting the economic vitality of the community. As an accredited program within the New Mexico MainStreet network and the national Main Street America movement, it works to preserve the area's historic character while promoting economic development and community pride.
The organization focuses on the revitalization of Las Vegas's historic commercial corridor, which includes the Plaza, Bridge Street, Douglas Avenue, and the Railroad District. Its work encompasses economic development, support for local businesses, facade and building renovations, beautification efforts, and the preservation of the area's rich historical, cultural, and architectural resources.
MainStreet de Las Vegas works to attract and support small businesses, facilitate the rehabilitation and reuse of vacant historic buildings, and create a vibrant downtown that supports commerce while celebrating the community's heritage. In recent years, the district has seen new businesses open and historic buildings change hands and be restored, reflecting the organization's efforts to strengthen the local economy.
The organization also organizes cultural events and works to instill a sense of place and community pride, embracing the area's history, arts, and natural environment. Las Vegas, New Mexico, possesses a wealth of historic architecture and a rich cultural heritage, and MainStreet de Las Vegas works to leverage these assets for community and economic benefit.
