About
Roadrunner Food Bank is the largest nonprofit dedicated to solving hunger in New Mexico, distributing tens of millions of pounds of food each year across all 33 counties. Founded in 1980, it grew from a modest operation into a statewide hunger relief network and is a member of Feeding America, the national food bank association.
The organization operates large warehouses in Albuquerque and Las Cruces and works through a network of more than 700 partner organizations, including food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, and other nonprofits. Roadrunner sources food from grocery retailers, farms, manufacturers, and food drives, then sorts, stores, and redistributes it to communities throughout the state.
Beyond bulk distribution, Roadrunner runs direct service programs that reach people where they live. Mobile food pantries deliver fresh produce and groceries to rural and underserved areas. The Healthy Foods Center model places food assistance inside healthcare settings, allowing medical providers to refer patients facing food insecurity. School-based programs and senior food box initiatives target children and older adults, two groups especially vulnerable to hunger.
New Mexico consistently ranks among the states with the highest rates of food insecurity and child hunger, and Roadrunner Food Bank positions itself as a frontline response to that challenge. The organization emphasizes nutritious food, fresh produce, and partnerships that connect hunger relief to health outcomes.
Roadrunner relies on individual donors, corporate partners, grants, and thousands of volunteers who sort and pack food at its facilities. Its work spans both immediate emergency food relief and longer-term efforts to address the root causes of hunger across urban and rural New Mexico communities.
