About

Blessing Ranch Ministries is a faith-based nonprofit that provides counseling, restoration, and renewal for Christian leaders, pastors, missionaries, and their families. Founded in 1996 by clinical psychologist Dr. John Walker, the ministry pioneered the field of intensive pastoral care, integrating psychology and theology to support leaders facing burnout, crisis, and the emotional toll of ministry.

The organization operates a ranch-based retreat model, offering a quiet setting where leaders can step away from the pressures of their work and receive concentrated counseling. Services center on intensive counseling sessions tailored to each individual, couple, family, or ministry team, led by trained counselors and psychologists who specialize in the unique stresses faced by those in vocational ministry.

Blessing Ranch addresses issues including moral failure, marital strain, depression, exhaustion, and conflict, with the goal of restoring leaders to health and effective service rather than seeing them leave ministry altogether. The ranch environment, with its emphasis on rest, reflection, and personal attention, is integral to the approach.

Beyond direct counseling, the ministry has worked to raise awareness about the prevalence of clergy burnout and the importance of proactive care for those who lead congregations and faith organizations. It serves leaders from a wide range of Christian traditions and from across the country, drawing people who travel to the ranch for focused, residential-style care.

Supported by donations, partner churches, and individuals who value leadership health, Blessing Ranch reflects a niche but significant mission within the nonprofit sector: caring for the caregivers and spiritual leaders whose own wellbeing is often overlooked. Its founding helped establish a broader movement focused on sustaining those in long-term ministry.
